yksi kaksi kolme nelja

finnish folk song

This song was taught to me by a dear friend, Magdalena Anderle. She learned it while travelling. It’s a Finnish folk song for children. The words mean: “One, two, three, four, Let (me) be happy, Because sadness will come, Let them go. Horseflies are singing. Four mice are jumping. A cat hits a drum. (And) the whole world is roaring.”

Yksi, kaksi, kolme, neljä

Anna iloinen olla

Koska suru tulee

Anna hänen mennä

Paarmat ne laulaa

Neljä hiirtä hyppelee

Kissi lyöpi trummun päälle

Koko maa hilma pauhaa

Performed by Finnish folk musician Merja Soria
