Witches Wednesday

Witches Wednesday is an approach to art making from a source of play. We combine lightness and depth with performative tools such as song making, oracle & storytelling in interactive, immersive spaces and installations. We aim to create opportunities for collective magic to happen; where people can explore other modes of being outside of everyday life, connecting with imagination, wonder, grief and joy. Our art is dreamt up in collaboration with invisible, ancestral, and other-than-human beings.

It is also the name of a new international holiday initiated by Ruth Gordon and Neele Ruckdeschel. It takes place every Wednesday and encourages the strengthening of one's inner witches. This holiday also represents their collective, which engages with questions like, "How can creativity, intuition, magic, connectivity, and alliances beyond the human contribute to building structures based on cooperation and care?"

WW has created diverse performative spaces such as “The Art, Philosophy & Beauty Salon”, “The Cathedral of Good & Evil” & “Trash Tarot”.

Ruth Gordon is a singer-songwriter, community builder & grief-tender from England who has composed and performed in many different musical projects including Ruth Gordon, The Wurpy Quade, Cakes & Ale, The Ninetree Stumblers & Boudica.

Neele Ruckdeschel is a multidisciplinary artist, space-holder & ritual maker. Her interdisciplinary work bridges many topics, & involves dancing, bodywork, writing, community building, conversation/dialogue, costumes, installation & cooking.

Projects

  • Trash Tarot

"Trash Tarot" is an interactive performance and installation that addresses the failures of modern society. Inspired by "fake therapy" (Valentina Desideri) and "fake healing" (Keith Hennessey), participants explore their creative power and intuition by creating their own arrangement with selected trash. Miss Fortune and Miss Leading interpret the arrangements in an oracle reading. This performance invites reflection on individual and collective failures and the discovery of new perspectives.

  • The Punk Herbal

The “Punk Herbal” is a mytho-poetic revolutionary songbook for modern times. We are working on this as a response to the plurality of crises in which the human world now finds itself – a restorative spell for humanity’s threadbare connection with the natural & spiritual world.
